It’s exactly as you would imagine an old)school Parisian museum, with wooden cases, painted ceilings and a crazy library!
Check out our photos.
It was while we were leaving the greenhouses of the Jardin du Luxembourg that we came across a gate leading to the Ecole des Mines – their garden runs just behind there, and as we’re always pleased to discover somewhere new, in we went.
And what a surprise it was! The building has a monumental staircase, three storey-high library and a huge collection of precious stones – there even a giant-sized meteorite from Russia.
Of course you don’t have to wait a year for the next Open House weekend – the museum, just minutes from our hotels, is open to the public every day except Sundays and Mondays. All the info is at the bottom of this article.
The Musée de Minéralogie (here) is open Tuesday-Friday from 1.30-6pm, and Saturdays from 10am-midday and 2-7pm
