Lots of thanks from the bottom of guests’ hearts this month!

Our latest selection of excerpts from the Hôtel des Grands Hommes guestbooks (from the 1940s & 50s) shows just how at home people felt when staying with Madame Souquet. Some of them really didn’t want to leave!

These comments were written in 1947 and 1948. Robert Johnson of Minneapolis writes is almost-perfect French to say “Luckily, I can leave with the hope of seeing you in a year or two. But even if I can’t come back to France, I will never forget you, your family and your house. Thanks for everything, and may God bless you”.

Robert Eugan of Minnesota says “I am so grateful for everything you have done for me and my friends. I cannot thank you enough. Your friendship will always be my best memory of France”.

Next, Robert Kober of Zurich writes “When someone mentions Paris to me, I will always think of Madame Souquet. A thousand thanks, goodbye. I hope to see you again soon”.

Nathaniel S. Thayer of Massachusetts says “I hope this is just a short goodbye and that I will see you again, either here in France in back at home”. Apparently, a lot of guests had a hard time saying goodbye!

And to finish off, several Swedish guests (who had stayed for a whole month!) left with their minds set on one thing – to come back as soon as possible!
