The house of Christian Dior is seventy this year, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs has decided to organise a huge exhibition to celebrate. Magnificently presented, it telle the story of the brand with hundreds of dresses designed Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, Raf Simons…

With more than 300 dresses dating from 1947 to the present day, the new exhibition Christian Dior, Designer of Dreams at the Museum of Decorative Arts shows the link between fashion and other arts, how Dior radically changed female fashion with his New Look, the evolution of styles over the decades and the role the designer had in rebooting the French fashion industry after the war.

A friend of Giacometti, Dalí and Jean Cocteau, a collector of Art nouveau and a lover of gardens, Dior used all these as inspiration, and this can be seen in his creations.
The exhibition presents Dior’s dresses both thematically and chronologically, from 1947 to 2017, showing the fashion house’s legendary verve and spirit – Dior died in 1957, but numerous artistic directors have successfully continued his legacy.

Thirty years after the last Dior exhibition (which concentrated on the period between 1947 and 1957), you’ll be able to see hundred of documents (illustrations, sketches, reportage photos, letters, advertising documents publicitaires…) and fashion-related objects (hats, jewellery, bags, shoes, perfume bottles…) together with over 300 stunning dresses.

And for the first time, the museum’s fashion exhibition spaces have been joined with the main nave to give nearly 3,000m² in which to show everything in a spectacular presentation.
