After a stint at the British Museum last summer, and less than a year since another Parisian exhibition on the same subject, the exhibition The American Dream: pop to the present arrives at the Custodia Foundation (close to our hotels) with works from Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, Cy Twombly…

Fans of pop art are being spoiled once again – in collaboration with the British Museum and the Terra Foundation for American Art, the Custodia Foundation in Paris is currently presenting over 100 pieces of pop art from 42 American artists.

Created during a troubled period in American history – marked by the Vietnam war and assassination of JFK – these colourful prints often repurposed other images in order to change their meaning or criticise the politics of the era.

Pop art artists also knew how to use the new reproduction methods of the time to print and sell their work to the masses. Their verve – and methods – marked a new era in the history of art.

All the works on show in the exhibition are from the British Museum’s collection.

The Foundation is also worth seeing for the building itself, a stone townhouse built in 1743 and now home to the Frits Lugt Collection.
