New presentation at the Cluny Museum – Five senses. Echoes of The Lady and the Unicorn until 20th August 2019

The modernisation of the Cluny Museum, super close to our hotels, continues (until the end of 2020). In the meantime, with a temporarily smaller exhibition space, the museum is using its collection in unusual and innovative ways to give a deliberately subjective view of medieval art.

This new temporary presentation is called Five senses. Echoes of The Lady and the Unicorn...

A lot of medieval text studied the five senses in order to class them from the most corporal to the most noble. This new temporary presentation at the museum shows sculptures, tapestries, metalwork and other articles that show the importance given to the senses in the Middle Ages.

In all, over a fifty different pieces await you…

The famous collection of six tapestries The Lady and the Unicorn is itself an allegory of the five senses, and as such forms the final piece in the new presentation. iT is thought that the six tapestry in the series may even hint that we have a sixth sense. Something to think about… 🧐
