The 2019 Ocean Festival at the Palais de la Porte Dorée and Natural History Museum, the weekend of 8th/9th June
To celebrate Oceans Day this Saturday, the Tropical Aquarium at the Palais de la Porte Dorée and the Natural History Museum close to our hotels are organising the third annual Ocean Festival.
Get ready for shows, workshops, films with (and without) concerts, DJs and a lot more…
The world’s oceans are increasingly menaced by human interference and mistreatment, and the Ocean Festival intends to show you how important it is that we take care of this incredible natural ressource.
While you’ll still have to pay to get into the Ocean exhibition at the Natural History Museum during this special weekend, the exhibition at the Tropical Aquarium Water – from the surface to the deep will be free, and the Aquarium is also organising:
— A selection of short films for kids as young as three years old, and
— Performances, concerts and DJ sets on the museum’s terrace

At the Jardin des Plantes near us, you’ll be able to enjoy:
— Storytelling about ‘pretty monsters’, (in French) which tells the tale of a little sardine and shows kids the often surprising inhabitants of the deep
— Octopus, a workshop-adventure in an beached oceanographic base (a strange yellow container), somewhere between science and fiction
— A room with tales of the seas being told by Violaine Joffart
— An activity based on global warming and the ocean’s role in regulating it
— A show called Ce bleu qui nous relie (“This blue that binds us”) by the Et Puis Donc… players, apparently aimed at children as young as one year old
— A cine-club, more shows, a ‘science bar’, talks…
…and at least a dozen other events!

Just one thing to note: the dates of the Festival aren’t exactly the same for both venues. The Ocean Festival at the Aquariums starts Friday 7th June for three days, and at the Jardin des Plantes it runs for three days starting Saturday 8th, with some events happening on Monday 10th June!
