Sally Mann – a Thousand Crossings exhibition at the Jeu de Paume until 22nd September 2019

The work of American photographer Sally Mann is explored in a large retrospective at the Jeu de PaumeA Thousand Crossings, with four decades of experimental photos including still lifes, nature (very much alive), images of children (often her own) and the special atmosphere of the countryside of the southern United States.

Memory and death, nature dismissively stronger than man, family bonds, race and religion, history and identity… Through seemingly universal themes, Sally Mann explores and expresses life with a very particular take.

The south os the United States is omnipresent in her work, in the landscape shots of course, but also in the portraits and still lifes. She explores the experience of youth, the effects of time on nature, the melancholia and joy of the countryside…

The exhibition is divided into five parts:

— Immediate Family

— The Earth

— The Last Measure

— Stay With Me, and

— What Remains
