The White Night, Saturday 5th October 2019

Back once again is one of Paris’ craziest, most stimulating nights of the cultural year – La Nuit Blanche (White Night), which aspires this year to be mobile, moving, sporty and festive!

Arranged into five main areas (or ‘stations‘), the Nuit Blanche offers four main events and dozens of other smaller installations, happenings and shows.

La Parade is a joyful, musical march through Paris from place de la Concorde to Bastille from 7-10pm, with twelve giant, specially-commissioned artworks, plus musicians, dancers and DJs,

La Grande Traversée is two actual 10km races you can run from 10pm-2am, during which you’ll also pass through a number of big museums (walking though – don’t want to damage anything do we?).

The map of venues can be consulted below

Le Vélodrome is turning part of Paris’ ring road motorway (the périphérique) into an illuminated velodrome, with artistic interventions and food trucks, and

Les artistes promeneurs is comprised of numerous static or mobile happenings all across town, including Raphaëlle de Groodt who’ll be setting off from the nearby suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois at 7pm to arrive at the Grands Voisins art space in the 15th arrondissement (not very far from our hotels) around 2am.

If you’d like to avoid the big crowds that the above will surely draw, there’s a lot more culture going on near us:

Stéfane Perraud has a sound installation comprised of forest sounds at the collège des Bernardins,

— The Ursula Burke exhibition at the Irish Cultural Centre is free for the evening,

Martine Feipel, Jean Béchameil and Chris Christoffels have concocted a piece of music called ‘La Nuit Sans Lune’ which is being hosted in the chapel of the Congrégation du Saint-Esprit, open to the public for the first time ever,

— There’s a collective exhibition called ‘Le Rêveur de la forêt‘ at the Zadkine Museum from 7-11pm,

Keiji Yamauchi has a light sculpture at the Saint-Séverin church, and their are works by Estefania Penafiel Loaiza just next door in the church’s art gallery,

— There a performance / concert by pianist Simon Ghraichy at the Institut de France,

Alexandre Korzeniovski and Tanguy Roussel invite you to experience their installation La cantatrice chauve at the school of Beaux-Arts…

…and that’s just a fraction of what’s on close to our hotels! The map with every last event can be found here (PDF), and there’s a breakdown of event by area / station here.

Also, if you have a smartphone, the Mapstr app could help you find your way around. Have a great White Night!
