The iconic Left Bank bookstore, near our hotels, has sent out a cry for help after seeing its turnover drop by a whopping 80% during the first lockdown period…

The store has existed at its current venue for almost 70 years, and since 2015 they also have a coffee shop next door, but times are tough for independent book sellers at the moment, forcing Shakespeare and Company to ask if there’s any way you can help.

It’s true that it would be hard to imagine them go – large bookstore Boulimier on boulevard Saint Michel closed in June (their rental agreement was not renewed) and it was a real shock to the area, something we don’t want to see repeated.

So…

While the bookstore cannot accept customer inside at the moment, you can still buy books from them!

For example, go to their website to get your fix, and you can then go and pick it up from the door. Order are also possible by telephone or e-mail (details below).

They can even customise your book (for free!) by adding the famous Shakespeare & Co. stamp or a spritz of perfume.

The bookstore also has a range of merchandise that you can buy, including tote bags, postcards and mugs, and there’s a very interesting 12-month subscription offer that will send you four books three times a year and even a little surprise or two. Order here for the very reasonable price of 275€.

And while the Shakespeare and Company may be closed, you can still order coffee and/or cakes to take away from 3-5pm every day.
