It’s Pancake Day at the Hotel Baume!

While other parts of Europe wait until Shrove Tuesday (25th February this year) before eating pancakes, in France it’s traditional to do so on la Chandeleur (Candlemas) which is 2nd February, and the team at the Hotel Baume did just that (while wearing masks and keeping distanced)!

Homemade waffles were available for all, as well as crêpes decorated with Nutella, white chocolate and mini-meringues!

Candlemas is forty days after Christmas – 2nd February – and is traditionally the first day that nativity scenes can be put away, although most French people know it more as a good excuse to eat crêpes!

It is also supposed to be the day when all the candles in the house are lit, but whether anyone does this after eating a huge pile of crêpes is open to debate 😜
