They’re changing the colour of the Eiffel Tower 馃槼

After being repainted in what’s known as ‘Eiffel Tower brown’ every seven years, the Iron Lady is soon to change colour, ready for the 2024 Olympic Games, and they’re calling it the biggest facelift she’s ever had…

The Eiffel Tower, not far from our hotels, may be closed for the moment, but its still being repainted – for the twentieth time!

Generally, the new coat is just painted on top of the old one, but this time part of the structure is being stripped of all nineteen layers (up to 3mm thick) and the colour is being changed for the entire tower, becoming slightly more golden.

Actually, the ‘Eiffel Tower brown’ we all know only dates back to 1968, and Gustave Eiffel himself had actually chosen more of a ‘yellow-brown’ colour.

Painting the giant structure takes a team three years to do, and costs around 50 million euros. When finished in 2022, the Tower will look slightly more metallic, and shine a little more in the sun.

While we await the reopening, if you’d like to explore the Eiffel Tower from the comfort of your own home you can do so by clicking here. There’s a succinct presentation of every floor to read and photos to check out.
