Picasso-Rodin exhibition at the Picasso Museum and the Rodin Museum, 19th May 2021 – 2nd January 2022
For the first time the Paris Picasso Museum and our neighbour the Rodin Museum are getting together for a very special two-part exhibition being held in the two spaces at the same time. It’s called, wait for it… Picasso-Rodin.
You might associate Rodin with the 19th century, but Picasso was actually 36 already when Rodin died, and both artists contributed, in their own way, to changing how art was made and appreciated in their time.
For this exceptional event, works by both artists are juxtaposed in both museums, but with a different approach. The idea is not to show what Picasso ‘borrowed’ from Rodin, but rather the common points between Rodin’s work and several of Picasso’s artistic periods.
The exhibition at the Rodin Museum also examines the crisis of artistic representation that occurred at the beginning of the 20th century, while the Picasso Museum focuses on the creative process that the two artists shared.
With over 500(!) pieces on show (ceramics, sculptures, paintings, drawings, photos, archive documents…) this is an incredible opportunity to understand more about the two artists, and art in general!
To help you appreciate the exhibitions there’s:
— an audioguide for the Rodin Museum in English,
— an adults audioguide for the Picasso Museum in English (and French, Spanish, German and Chinese) and an audioguide for kids in English,
— conferences at both museums,
— a weekend of activities and events on Saturday 25th September 2021 at the Picasso Museum and Sunday 26th September 2021 at the Rodin Museum…
