The HPRG collection (Hotels Paris Rive Gauche) has a new four-star gem to offer its guests with the opening of the Hotel Saint-André des Arts****.

Located in the street of the same name, right in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and just seconds from the historic Procope restaurant, the completely restored hotel – which used to be a favourite of artists and musicians – now has a new look: a little pop, a little bohemian, slightly daring but totally timeless.

Art lovers, foodies and fashionistas alike will fall in love with its perfect location.

Talented architect and interior designer Chloé Nègre, chosen personally by the owners, has completely reimagined the space, bringing in elements of 1960s and 70s design as a reminder of the hotel’s heyday.

The identity of the Saint-André des Arts is expressed through a daring choice of furniture and fittings sourced, imagined and designed especially for the hotel. Flower-shaped table stands and mirrors, inverted droplet sculpted wood details, vibrant swirling carpets, bulbous lamps decorated with lace-like fabrics (by Dedar), bedheads in a sublimely confident mix of colour gradients and materials…

There are also nods to iconic designers from the late 1960s, like Verner Panton‘s Fun ceiling and wall lights, Vico Magistretti’s Eclisse lamp by Artemide, Henry Massonnet’s Tam Tam stools and Anna Castelli Ferrieri’s Componibili bedside tables by Kartell, with a burr walnut top.

The hotel’s visual identity has been developed by artistic director and graphic artist Leslie David. Her colourful, geometric approach fits perfectly with Chloé Nègre’s vision.

After passing the original heavy oak door at the entrance, guests arrive in a lobby area seemingly preserved through time, with an emerald-coloured lacquered rattan reception desk giving a a glimpse of what’s to come. You can already imagine the very particular ambience of the place.

To your right, the cosy salon has retro burgundy and beige floor tiles that immediately set the tone. Four specially-made armchairs in bright yellow fabric (Citron Vallauris by Lelièvre), a wall seat in burgundy-coloured velvet (Élitis) and a psychedelic 1960s-style mirror immerse you in the hotel’s new feel. Playful curves, lighting, colours and textures all contribute to the daring harmony and atmosphere. Here and there you’ll find vintage furniture pieces that blend with those designed especially.

Decades intertwine and time seems suspended.

To the left is the bar with its celadon green ceramic wall tiles, the perfect place to relax, delicately hidden from the street by netting on the windows. Green velvet and leather wall seats provide a visual accent, in addition to the bespoke seats placed around small burr walnut tables with flower power feet, a signature piece of Chloé Nègre’s studio.

The centrepiece of this room is a large round rattan table, also created for the space, allowing guests to share a moment together, comfortably sat in the vintage wooden chairs that accompany it. The bright yellow table top echoes the velvet of the armchairs in the room next door. This is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast featuring products carefully selected by the hotel.

Towards the back of the room, the granite bar adds an elegant touch to this bright yet intimate space.

Verner Panton’s pear-shaped Fun lights add a bohemian touch. In the evening, this setting will be ideal for tasting delicious cocktails in a cosy atmosphere.

The lift, elegantly decorated with fabric representing Jean Cocteau’s ‘Le dormeur’ (Lelièvre) transports guests to the 28 rooms spread over four floors. A mezzanine wing offers two additional rooms. Several have an extra sofa bed, others communicate – both are perfect for family stays. Each room has a unique layout – this is a venerable building with a very Parisian feel. For example, room 43 – a suite – feels like a small loft apartment under the eaves.

Each floor offer a new chromatic interpretation of the 1960s and 70s. The curtains have surprising, dreamlike shades that create an overall feeling of harmony between the room’s colours and enchant each space.

On the third floor, for example, Jim Thompson’s Melusine curtains from Pierre Frey set the scene for a sun-drenched colour palette. Whether your room has a view of rue Saint-André des Arts and the rooftops of Paris, or is one of those nestled under the eaves – both signature spaces of the hotel’s resolutely Parisian charm – each is a new encounter between colour and light, the present and the past.

And for a moment of total relaxation, the hotel has a wellness space (opening soon) that can be completely privatised. Whirlpool bath, massages with Terraké beauty products, relaxing seating… Everything has been designed to revitalise guests, far from the effervescence of the city. You’ll love the original vaulted stone ceilings and zesty colours that give the space its energy, encouraging visitors to continue their unique voyage through the decades, back to the sixties.

A new chapter awaits this unusual hotel, where iconic design from the 60s and 70s meets bespoke furniture by Chloé Nègre.

Expect classics with a twist, touches of humour, arty objects… and a little craziness.
