Meet our team – Josselin Hütter of the Hotel Saint-André des Arts

Josselin is the manager of the Hotel Saint-André des Arts, our new 4-star hotel!

We managed to sit him down for five minutes and ask how he came to work at the hotel, how the opening has gone, and where he likes to go nearby!

First very important question – how you doin’? 🙂

Everything’s going really well! I’m delighted the hotel is open, that visitors are returning to our beautiful city and that the first reviews are so positive.

Tell us how you came to work at the Saint-André.

Up until now, my career has been exclusively in Paris, and on the other side of the Seine! After studying at a specialised college for the hotel trade, I worked at reception in a 4-star hotel in the 9th arrondissement, was quickly promoted and at 27 had my first experience managing a 4-star hotel in the 2nd arrondissement. After working at another hotel in the 8th arrondissement, here I am at the Saint-André des Arts. All the hotels I’ve worked at had very different styles, but all were decorated by well-known interior designers.

The hotel has a special feel to it, a story. Tell us more.

The building, as far back as our research goes, has always been a hotel. As it’s well located in Odéon / Saint-Germain, it has welcomed numerous artistes and celebrities including Serge Gainsbourg who is said to have stayed quite a few months. That was the starting point for our interior design inspired by the 60s and 70s.

In the HPRG collection, the Saint-André is the most central hotel, with lots of places easy to reach on foot. For example?

Cour du commerce: a charming pedestrian gallery, quintessentially Parisian, just opposite the hotel.
Rue de Seine: you’ll find dozens of art galleries here, less than 100 metres away
La Samaritaine: this Art Deco style department store – classed as an historical monument – has finally reopened, just 700m from the hotel
The Seine: how can anyone resist a walk along the banks of the Seine and around the île de la Cité ?

Do you have a favourite room?

Room 30, a Deluxe room with lots of room, a high ceiling, two south-facing windows and exposed oak beams. I absolutely love it.

The Bain des Sens will be opening soon. What is it exactly?

It’s a relaxation space with a vaulted stone ceiling that can be privatised. Access is free if you’re staying in one of our Superior rooms (or above), and there’s a jacuzzi (that we call the ‘Bain des Sens’) to which you can add a perfume of your choice – relaxing, enchanting, invigorating, energising, stimulating, de-stressing… We’ve also worked with Terraké to offer their body care products and massages.

Give us five places you like nearby, and tell us why.

Le Hibou: you can’t go wrong with this place. Their vast terrace is always buzzing, any time of year.
Procope: said to be Paris’ oldest restaurant, founded in 1686. An institution!
Café de l’Odéon: in the summer, this huge terrace in front of the Odeon Theatre is perfect for catching the sun .
Le Christine: a restaurant with successfully reimagined French classics.
Maison Sauvage: the area’s must-see bar-restaurant featuring interior design with lots and lots of flowers.
