Signac the Collector exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay, 12th October 2021 – 13th February 2022

You almost certainly know the paintings of Paul Signac, but the self-taught artist wasn’t just a creator, he was also a collector of art. The Musée d’Orsay, very close to our hotels, shows us part of his collection and how it influenced Signac’s work.

Organised with the Signac Archives i order to have a precise overview of the paintings, drawings and engravings that belonged to the artist, the exhibition Signac collectionneur let’s us see the taste of the artist, who was particularly prolific during his lifetime.

Born into a well-off family, Signac had the money necessary to buy paintings and drawings, and many artist friends. Being part of the organisation of the influential Salon des artistes indépendants also helped him have access to works of quality.

Over five decades, he built up a personal collection including around 400 works by Seurat, Pissarro, Cézanne, Bonnard, Matisse, Redon, Van Gogh, Monet, Caillebotte and more.

The exhibition should give you a new view of the painter, through his personal tastes and artistic choices.
