Photo Saint-Germain festival in Saint-Germain-des-Prés until 20th November 2021

The Left Bank’s biggest and best photo festival (happening close to our hotels) is back for its tenth edition, and – as always – the line-up looks great, with some interesting photographers and super venues. Let’s take a look at the highlights…

You have two weeks to make the most of Photo Saint-Germain, and if you like photography even a little, you’re in for a treat!

There are numerous exhibitions on offer, most of them free, in galleries, museums, cultural centres and even bookshops! Some of our favourite spots are participating, and there are a few big name photographers represented.

Let’s start with the Académie des beaux-arts (here) with a big exhibition by Annie Leibowitz, who has just been awarded their photo prize. Leibowitz has selected over 200 images covering fifity years of her career, and entrance is free!

More info here.

At the Maison d’Auguste Comte (here) that we visited for you not so long back, there’s an exhibition called Fantographie, Images and traces of the Invisible (1850-1950), rare and unseen photos about the representation of ghosts in early photography.

At the Delacroix Museum (that we love, here) Noémie Goudal presents Échos toujours plus sourds, selected photos presented in the midst of the permanent collection, and they are astonishing. More info here.

At the Irish Cultural Centre (here), Donovan Wylie is showing some large-format works from his Lighthouse series, poetic photos that capture the distant lights from lighthouses.

And if we had to pick one exhibition from the dozens of others on offer, perhaps we’d go for Picasso Intime with photos by Jacqueline Picasso, the artist’s last wife, at the Arenthon Gallery (here).

Expect to see more of the Picasso’s family life than they showed other photographers…

More info here.

And that’s just a quick view of some of the high-quality exhibitions on offer during the festival this year. You can check out a map of all the participating venues here, or see it in list form here.

By the way, there are also special events being organised every day of the festival (meet ‘n’ greets, conferences, guided visits…). To check out the events calendar, click here.
