Exhibition Outremonde – The Sleeping Chapter by Théo Mercier at the Conciergerie until 8th January 2023

As part of the Paris Autumn Festival, Théo Mercier‘s sand sculptures are on show at the Conciergerie, very close to our hotels, and form “a caress, or perhaps an experimental fleeing into the thickness of the night, the paradoxal sleep or conscious dream” 🤔

D.R.

Théo Mercier’s installation at the Conciergerie, also part of the Hermès Foundation’s New Settings programme, deconstructs its own venue – the vaulted stone arches of the ‘salle des Gens d’armes’.

You’ll see columns either broken or seemingly decomposing back into sand, referencing the history of the place, as well as other forms such as sleeping dogs and mattresses, meant to represent “the reparative crossing into sleep and injured dreams”. 🤨

A number of performances are being held in the exhibition from 3rd-11th December (but not the 6th) at 8pm, during which visitors will be guided by “an omniscient child”, accompanied by sound and light that evoke “the imprint of bodies, the fold of sheets, the echo of breath and pulsations”.

This is the third and final presentation of the Outremonde triptych, started in 2021 and visiting three different types of architecture, so this is your last chance to experience its strange, dreamlike atmosphere.

And if you’d like to keep a souvenir of the experience, a publication called “Un artiste, un monument” as available, detailing the event – 32 pages folded as a poster, for just 5€. Dreamy!
