Berthe Morisot exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay, 18th June – 22nd September 2019

Less well known than her friends Monet, Degas and Renoir, Berthe Morisot is the subject of a large new exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay, near our hotels!

One of the most innovative impressionist artists, Berthe Morisot did not get the recognition she deserved during her lifetime. However, through the choice of approach to her subjects, she became an essential figure of the Parisian avant-garde in the late 19th century.

The exhibition looks back at her career and show some of her favourite themes – bourgeois life, gardens, women working in the home, fashion and the importance of fashion… All resolutely modern subjects.

You will also see how her style evolved over the years – in her later paintings there a certain sadness, questioning the relationship between life and art.
