Giorgio de Chirico exhibition at the Orangerie, 16th September – 14th December 2020

The Orangerie has finally reopened all its rooms, freshly restored and repainted, with a new presentation of the permanent collection and a new temporary exhibition pushed back from last spring – Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical painting.

The exhibition explores the life of the painter, his influences and his inspirations, following his stays in Milan, Florence and Paris in the early 20t century.

It’s in Paris that De Chirico met a number of important people from the Paris art world – both painters and agents – as well as cultural and literary celebrities such as André Breton, known for having invented automatic writing while staying at the Hotel des Grands Hommes.

For those who can’t attend the exhibition in person, a virtual tour with selected works is available online here, but for the rest of us (after having booked online), there are guided visits (from 23rd September – 7th December 2020 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 4pm), workshops, a conference on 4th December followed by a showing of a documentary (in Greek, subtitled in French) called Giorgio de Chirico, argonaut of the soul (that you can also watch below)…

A ‘curieuse nocturne‘ (curious late-night opening) called The eternal present, surrealist night – is also taking place on 3rd December from 7;30-10pm, with the aim of attracting a younger clientele with hip happenings including painting, theatre, poetry and music de 19h30 à 22h, le but étant d’attirer une clientèle plus jeune avec de la peinture, du théâtre, de la poésie et de la musique “at the crossroads of European avant-garde”. 🤔
