Currently subject of much brouhaha about the endless lines and rooms so stuffed full of tourists that no-one can see <em>anything<\/em>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.chateauversailles.fr\/homepage\" title=\"Ch\u00e2teau de Versailles\">Ch\u00e2teau de Versailles<\/a> (or rather <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amisdeversailles.com\/\">la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Amis de Versailles<\/a>) continues its renovation program&#8230; with stunning results.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6031\/6357677399_7131af4a03_o_d.jpg\" title=\"Pi\u00e8ce des bains de Marie-Antoinette restaur\u00e9e\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo \u00a9 EPV \/ Christian Milet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more-->Marie-Antoinette bathing rooms (in the Queen&#8217;s small apartment, centrally located on the ground floor of the main building) date from 1782 and are made up of three rooms &#8211; a bedroom, a library and a bathroom, although they were partially disassembled around 1830.<\/p>\n<p>Restoration was started as far back as 1984 (!) with the wood and marble being put back in. The recent work just finished has given golden lustre to the edges of the mirrors, restored all wooden elements and refreshed the lighting.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6229\/6357677487_05bd1d891c_o_d.jpg\" title=\"Pi\u00e8ce des bains de Marie-Antoinette restaur\u00e9e\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo \u00a9 EPV \/ Christian Milet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Furniture has been added (armchairs, a copper bath&#8230;) using inventories from royal houses and iconographic research as a guide. Inaugurated early November 2011, you&#8217;ll have to book <a href=\"http:\/\/en.chateauversailles.fr\/prepare-my-visit-\/single\/tickets-and-rates\/billets-et-tarifs\/visites-commentees-1-en\">a themed guided tour<\/a> if you want to see them; the next ones are on 26 and 27th February (The private apartment of Marie-Antoinette) and the 4th January and 12th February 2012 (The intimate world of the bathroom bains).<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 399px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6228\/6357677339_6c96194426_o_d.jpg\" title=\"Pi\u00e8ce des bains de Marie-Antoinette restaur\u00e9e\" width=\"399\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">photo \u00a9 Christian Milet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The previous restoration helmed and paid for by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Amis de Versailles &#8211; inaugurated in September &#8211; was in the Cour des Cerfs (deer courtyard).
