The Giacometti Insititute<\/a> is a new cultural centre and exhibition space near our hotels<\/a> in the former artist’s studio where Giacometti lived and worked his entire career.<\/p>\n

This Art D\u00e9co townhouse is a listed monument, and the interiors have been preserved, restored and reorganised. All you have to do to enjoy them is to book in advance…

\nSpread over 350m\u00b2, the Giacometti Insititute<\/a> has just opened and intends to offer three to four temporary exhibitions per year.<\/p>\n

Rather unusually, you can’t buy entrance tickets when you arrive – you have to book online<\/a> a few days before you intend to go.<\/p>\n

During your visit you’ll see the reconstitution of Alberto Giacometti<\/a>‘s workshop and the current exhibition. At the moment (until 16th September 2018) it’s\u00a0 The Studio of Alberto Giacometti seen by Jean Genet<\/em>, which explains the bonds of friendship and profound admiration between the two artists, after havng been introduced to each other in 1954 by none other than Jean-Paul Sartre.<\/p>\n

Also included in the exhbition is the group of Women of Venice in plaster from 1956, presented for the first time in France, together with a selection of sketches and drawings, some of them never shown to the public before, photos, archival video and the portrait of Giacommetti painted by Genet, on loan from the Pompidou Centre.<\/p>\n

The Institute has published a catalogue of the exhibition, (116 pages, 24\u20ac here<\/a> at amazon), but we’re slightly more intrigued by the book published by Gallimard<\/a>, a re-edition of one originally released sixty years ago (96 pages, 21.50\u20ac here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Giacometti Institute (here<\/a>) is open every day except Mondays, with prior booking, from 10am-6pm (2pm Tuesdays)<\/big><\/p>\n
