While other parts of Europe wait until Shrove Tuesday (25th February this year) before eating pancakes, in France it’s traditional to do so on la Chandeleur<\/em> (Candlemas<\/a>) which is 2nd February, and the team at the Hotel Baume<\/a> did just that (while wearing masks and keeping distanced)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homemade waffles were available for all, as well as cr\u00eapes decorated with Nutella, white chocolate and mini-meringues!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candlemas is forty days after Christmas – 2nd February – and is traditionally the first day that nativity scenes can be put away, although most French people know it more as a good excuse to eat cr\u00eapes<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also supposed to be the day when all the candles in the house are lit, but whether anyone does this after eating a huge pile of cr\u00eapes is open to debate \ud83d\ude1c<\/p>\n\n\n\n
