Star Wars toy exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs from 4th October 2012 – 17th March 2013

Over the years, Star Wars moved from being a series of films that inspired toys, to a series of films that were devised to sell toys, which is not the same thing at all.

Thankfully concentrating on the initial golden period, this exhibition show how things have changed over the 35 sinc the first toy was made, and how the collection grew from around 100 figurines to over 2,500 characters…

Did you know that R2-D2 was called D2R2 in France for the first ever Star Wars film? Or that C-3PO is dubbed into French as Z-6P0 to match the actors’ lip movements? Neither did we, but if you’re a hardcore fan, perhaps you did. In which case, you’ll definitely be in Paris for this exhibition.

In a layout designed by the hip H5 collective (that have their own exhibition very shortly at the Gaîté Lyrique), the exhibition shows a private collection from ScienceFictionArchives.com. It’s it’s pretty huge.

You’ll be able to see how the toys are designed and made, the link between them and the films, and see how their look has changed over the years, much as the looks of the films have also evolved. The exhibition also goes beyond figurines to show dolls, costumes and a selection of videogames based on the films.

A must for any serious Star Wars fan!
