Marcel Breuer at the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine from 20th February – 17th July 2013

One of the most important and influential designers/architects of the 20th century is the subject of this new exhibition at the la Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine. Even if his name isn’t familiar to you, you’ve most likely seen one of his buildings, like the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, or the Unesco building in Paris…

Marcel Breuer may be better known for some of his iconic furniture, such as the Wassily Chair, but he always defined himself first and foremost as an architect. His avant-garde use of reinforced concrete is remarkable, and many of his buildings remain awe-inspiring today.

The exhibition – being shown here for the first time in France – has been designed by the Vitra Design Museum, and split into five sections – Materials, Houses, Spaces, Volumes and Motifs.

A dozen or so examples will be shown under each heading, and guided visits are available one Wenesday per month if you’d like to have further explanations.

Beaux Arts magazine is also publishing a mini-guide (9€ here on amazon.fr).
