If you’ve never experienced the 21st June in France, which is the Fête de la Musique, you are in for something of a surprise. It’s the one day of the year when anyone can take to the streets and play or mix music, and it’s a loud, festive affair to be sure, with something on almost every corner.

Here are a few examples of what’s going on in the area near our hotels !

So this is the longest day of the year, the official start of summer, and the French intend to celebrate it in style! There are heaps of different events and styles on offer, and lots going on just minutes from us, so let’s dive in!

In the 5th arrondissement there are 24 events – , a choir in the frigidarium of the Cluny Museum, a rock concert in the Arènes de Lutèce, salsa, blues, an Irish evening, Polynesian music(!), hard rock, hip-hop DJs at the Institut du Monde Arabe…

You can even see Abba at the Saint-Etienne-du-Mont church (no, the Swedish group has not reformed. These guys are cellists accompanied by traditional hebrew dances).

In the 6th arondissement, there are 17 events happening – a brass band in the Jardin du Luxembourg, traditional Ukrainian music, classical music, a baroque ensemble at the Musée Delacroix, folk-rock(?), an ‘opera  of images’ at the Notre Dame des Champs church…

Oh, and the group Frogspoon will be playing “5 hours of pop, rock and groove cover versions of songs from the 80s to the 2000s!” (as will about 50 other groups).
