Closed since early 2018, the museum of the Liberation of Paris has moved and is opening in a splendid new space at Denfert-Rochereau, very close to our hotels.

The new museum, whose full (mouthful of a) name is Le musée de la Libération de Paris – musée du général Leclerc – musée Jean Moulin – will be officially inaugurated on 25th August 2019, also the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris.

The new venue at Denfert-Rochereau is one 18th century and one 19th century building, both of which have been completely restored and redesigned. It’s a real step forward for the museum, which was previously housed / hidden above and behind the Montparnasse train station.

Over 300 objects, photos, videos and original documents will be displayed in order to explain the crucial moment in the Second World War.

The new museum intends to be innovative and educational, with a completely redesigned layout. Temporary exhibitions will also be organised starting in 2020.

We’re really looking forward to seeing the place, perhaps during Open House weekend on 21st & 22nd September ?
