For the first time ever, a Star Wars exhibition has finally landed in Paris.

I’m a fan of the films (the earlier, more story-led ones rather than the newer more kids-orientated ones) so the idea was quite appealing. However, the exhibition is probably best for kids rather than adults, and it showed; the place was packed with them! On a Sunday afternoon during the school holidays, it became fairly difficult to see a lot of the exhibits clearly.

A lot of models and costumes are on display, and as it is taking place at the Science Museum there is also a little science mixed in to give a serious edge to what is (let’s face it) and enormous advertisement for what has become one of the biggest marketing franchises in recent history.

Without kids you’d have to be a rabid fan of the films to find a lot of the exhibition genuinely interesting, but I have to admit that the layout and presentation is pleasing. Also, parents should be warned that the exit door leads directly on to the Star Wars-themed shop where you could easily spend a fortune on plastic toys and lightsabers. More proof that this is a thinly-disguised money-making exercise…
