Karl Lagerfeld’s extremely expensive Xmas log for Lenôtre

Each year Lenôtre asks a celebrity to design their traditional Xmas log…

Well, it’s traditional if you live in France, a final sugary touch to bring the Xmas meal to a perfect finish. After last year’s humorous piece by Philippe Starck (he squared it up and made it look like a block of wood), Karl Lagerfeld (together with chef Guy Krenzer) is doing the honours this year with an opulent piece that will amaze your guests and test your gag reflex.

The mirrored interior reveals a cinnamon and gingerbread flavoured cake (for eight to ten people) with an orangey centre, all covered in chocolate – or rather three different types of chocolates – and crowned by a sugar axe with sugar jewels. Karl said that it wouldn’t have been the same without the axe.

If the cake itself doesn’t amaze your guests, the price will surely have their jaws dropping; expect to pay 115 euros (and you’d be advised to order one in advance, as it’s a limited edition).

Look at Karl and Guy celebrating below. What a fabulous time they are having! Karl is so happy that he’s almost smiling…

You can reserve your cake in any Lenôtre shop from 6th December. The cake itself will be available from 22nd December.
