For the fifth year running, the Institut Curie in Paris is organising Une Jonquille pour la Vie (A Daffodil for Life). At their website you can donate 2 euros to buy a virtual flower for their virtual garden, and from 21st to 23 March 2008 – as part of a national 10-day event – the place du Panthéon will be decorated with daffodils donated by the public. Last year there were 50,000 laid out, so it’s quite an exceptional event to see!

During those three days, a lot will be going on around the Panthéon: street theatre, a parade, the wonderfully-titled Nymphonik Brass Band, Batucada Zalindé, face painting for the kiddies and (brace yourself) some little green men in bouncy shoes “with their faithful reindeer Tatac”. There will also be deckchairs and picnic areas available for the public.

The Curie Museum just nearby will also be free if you’d like to go and discover the history of the Curies (a family that won no less than 5 Nobel prizes).

Here’s the precise details of what will be going on on the Place du Panthéon (in French I’m afraid…) Press the yellow button at the top left for a bigger version.
