Got 300,000 euros? Why not buy one of André Breton’s original manuscripts?

Sotheby’s are having an auction of rare manuscripts by the surrealist theorist…

It’s not often that this sort of thing comes up at auction, so if you have between 300,000 and 500,000 euros to spare, why not splash out on one of André Breton‘s original manuscripts at Sotheby‘s in Paris on 21st May? You may know that the man himself once stayed at our Hôtel des Grands Hommes (this was back in 1919 when he was writing The Magnetic Fields), so we feel a sort of attachment to the man. Not so attached as to spend 500,000 euros on him though… 😉 With 21 pages in the Manifeste du Surréalisme, that makes about 15,000 euros a page.

Still interested? You can see the the lots exposed at Sotheby’s on 15th May 2008 from 4pm – 8pm, from 16th – 19th May 2008 between 10am and 6pm, and 20th May 2008 from 4pm – 8pm. Bidding is on 21st May.
