The 12th Paris Garden Festival – 27th & 28th September 2008

Your chance to get to find out more about Paris’ green spaces. With some gardens only open these two days, don’t miss it!

Once a year the city of Paris holds its Fête des Jardins, interesting not only for the events being held in the public gardens, but also because several private gardens are open specially for the event. General opening hours are from 1.30 – 6.30pm on the Saturday, and 10.30am – 6.30pm on the Sunday. Careful though: some gardens are only open on the Sunday afternoon.

We’ll be popping down to see the Jardin de la Communauté des Lazaristes which is literally just behind our Hôtel Ferrandi Saint Germain on the rue du Cherche-Midi. They will be open on Sunday 28th September from 2 – 6pm only, so make sure you are there on time! The garden is “simple and shady, with large sycamore trees and roses.” We think that sounds lovely!

If you need the full details of the weekend event (far too much going on to list it all here), you can download a PDF with all the details (in French) here. We were pleased to see that many gardens are not only holding repotting workshops, quizzes and exhibitions, but also have tours in sign language.

Also, we had a quick look round one of Paris’ newest gardens this weekend. It’s the Jardin Anne Frank, just near the Pompidou Centre, but hidden down a little alley. It’s a great sunny retreat from the bustle of the city, and will certainly become more lush over the coming years. Here are a few photos, and the map so you can find it.
