Third part (out of four) of our retrospective of previous years’ cartes blanches before the start of our 2011 PHPA exhibition.

In 2009, artists Combes & Renaud were chosen to come up with a brand new work to grace the PHPA exhibition, and their project surprised everyone…Held once again at the Théâtre de l’Odéon (just next to the Jardin de l’Odéon), the fourth PHPA exhibition included a new creation by Combes & Renaud that they entitled “Interstices – Solution de continuité”, a mix f photography and moving images with soundtrack and spoken word. After the more colourful contributions of previous years, some visitors were slightly taken aback, but some moder art just needs a little time to soak in, you know?…

Their work was genuinely surprising, and most visitors took the few minutes necessary to sit down, watch the short film, and reflect on what they had seen. We we reassured when we saw that people would make that effort.If you look closely, you’ll see a bit of a hotel room, part of the theatre stage… The 2009 carte blanche filled the brief perfectly of finding its inspiration in our hotels and in the theatre.
