Some great, stylish cafés to try out on the Left Bank

The most famous Parisian cafés are in Saint-Germain-des-Prés near our hotels, including venerable institutions like Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots, but the Paris coffee scene is flourishing right now, with loads of great new places that take as much care with their décor as they do their coffee beans.

So, your first stop should definitely be the lounge of one of our hotels, or why not the garden and terrace of the Clos Belle Juliette – we can always make great coffee for our guests.

After that, you might like to try out one of the suggestions from the Sprudge blog which is specialised in all things coffee. They’ve just published a great article with some addresses just minutes away from our hotels!

Here’s the map – now read the article to find out why each place is so great 🙂

If you’re looking for a latte like the ones in Italy (or even San Francisco) Paris is the place to be. Over the past few years, a new scene has emerged for those who know their beans and like the surroundings to be trendy. There are even new collectives like Belleville, treating coffee bean roasting with a reverence previously reserved for wine.

We’re very grateful to Sprudge for writing about some of their favourite coffee shops on the Left Bank, and really wanted to share the addresses with you.

For example, Coutume is near la Belle Juliette. It was one the first new places to open and has never looked back since.

In fact, they are so popular that a second Coutume – Coutume Instituutti – now exists inside the Institut Finlandais, just minutes from the Hôtel Design Sorbonne and Le Baume.

Coutume also has lovely cakes and light food is you’re feeling peckish.

Nearer the Hôtel des Grands Hommes and Les Dames du Panthéon you’ll find two other cafés to try.

Dose – dealer de café at the bottom end of rue Mouffetard (an area you should definitely explore) has loads of windows or space to sit outside, under an archway, if you prefer. A great spot for getting your strength back after a bit of shopping!

And the last idea, just as close by, is Strada Café, which opened its first coffee shop in the Marais across the river before opening a second spot on the Left Bank. Their coffee beans come from Arbre à Café, and they are not far from the Jardin des Plantes et the National History Museum, so you can pop in and see them after a visit.
