Grayson Perry exhibition at the Monnaie de Paris until 3rd February 2019
Paris may not have seen anything quite like it before – the Monnaie de Paris is presenting the first large-scale exhibition of Grayson Perry‘s work in France, and it’s very close to our hotels.

Not many contemporary artistswork with cermaic, metal tapestry and engraving.
Even fewer use these pieces to question our preconceptions of genre, identity, religion, social classes and sexuality.
For Grayson Perry, his outlandish cross-dressing persona – questioning our notions of what is ‘masculine’ – is an integral part of his work, which illustrates his life, his ideas, and his point of view. The artist and his work are inseparable.

The exhibition, which is spread over two floors of the Monnaie de Paris, contains 55 pieces, including the giant 8-metre wide tapestry Comfort Blanket, ad is organised into ten thematic chapters: identity, masculinity, (new) masculinity, hospitality, historicality, antiquity, sexuality, society, divinity and vanity.
For the event, the artists has created two nex medals that you can purchase for 4€ each while exiting through the gift shop (or get online).
For those with deeper pockets, there’s a Teddy Bear medal sold in its own box with a certificate of authenticity for 149€.

Linked with the exhibition there’s a conference with the artists on 21st November at 7.30pm, a visit of the exhibition with the curator on 28 November at 7pm, and on 9th January a showing of Perry’s documentary ‘Divided Britain’.
A bilingual catalogue is also available (200 pages, 93 illustrations, 29€ here at amazon.fr).
