Yvette de la Frémondière exhibition at the Forney Library until 25th September 2021

Artist and sculptor Yvette de la Frémondière currently has her work being shown at the Forney Library in the centre of town – not so many sculptures this time, but rather collages ( or ‘frémontages’, as she calls them) using her collection of over 300,000 postcards!

If you like intriguing juxtapositions and old photos, this new exhibition by Yvette de la Frémondière, who has lived in Paris since 1952, is for you.

Her massive postcard collection contains a lot of vintage images, but also many from the late 20th century, and the huge choice allows her to construct themed groups of images that are a lot of fun.

One collection of people holding mirrors leads to the next with people with images of themselves, which leads to a collection featuring twins, and so on…

Both subjective and poetic, with a certain sense of playfulness, the grouping of the images changed the meaning of each of them. Each collection is like a chapter in an ever-evolving story that she is telling.

Follow the images and you’ll soon see what the frémontages are trying to say 😜
