Fashion designer Alber Elbaz, who died of COVID-19 in 2021, is being celebrated at the Palais Galliera, Paris’ Fashion Museum, with an exhibition focusing on the incredible catwalk show hommage that was given last October for his freshly-created fashion house AZ Factory, featuring 46 dresses by the most famous fashion brands in the world.

After a long career in fashion working at Guy Laroche, Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and Lanvin, Alber Elbaz founded his own fashion house, AZ Factory, in January 2021. Just three months later, he passed away from complications related to COVID-19, leaving the world of fashion in shock.

On the 5th October 2021, a vast fashion show was organised in his honour in Paris. Forty-six fashion designers were each invited to create a piece inspired by Elbaz’ style and personality.

The list of participating names is really quite extraordinary – Alaïa, Alexander McQueen, Armani, Balenciaga, Balmain, Burberry, Chloé, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Dries Van Noten, Fendi, Galliano (for Maison Margiela), Givenchy, Gucci, Hermès, Jean Paul Gaultier, Loewe, Ralph Lauren, Saint Laurent, Schiaparelli, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Versace, Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood and more…

The exhibition shows not only the dresses from the fashion show, but actually tries to reproduce it, using the original music and lighting, and presenting the pieces in the same order.

By the way, the title of the exhibition comes from a saying that Elbza often used – Love brings love. Hopefully, it’s the love of the fashion world for this creative individual that you’ll feel during the exhibition…

Guided visits of the exhibition are available for anyone over 15 years old, and there are two different workshops for kids on offer. All the info can be found here.
