Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise – the Final Months exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay until 4th February 2024

The Musée d’Orsay, close to our hotels, takes an in-depth look at the last two months of Vincent Van Gogh‘s life in Auvers-sur-Oise, a key period for his work.

In the spring of 1890, painter Van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise to be closer to Paris and his brother Théo. Fragile and depressed, he took his own life two months later.

ironically, these industrious few weeks would see him produce some of his best work (74 paintings and 33 drawings, including the famous paintings The Church at Auvers and Portrait of Dr. Gachet.

Informed by numerous years of research, the exhibition concentrates on this very particular period in the work of Van Gogh.

In collaboration with the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, it offers a themed presentation, with still lifes, landscapes and portraits painted at the very end of the artist’s life, and it’s the first time that an exhibition has concentrated exclusively on this subject.
