The incredible Museum at the National Library (that we visited for you) has just opened its latest exhibition The Invention of the Renaissance – The humanist, the prince and the artist exploring humanism and the new approach to knowledge between the 14th and 16th century.

It was a time of artistic, intellectual and scientific effervescence… a Renaissance!

Soberly presented in five sections, this new exhibition shows the importance of humanism from the 14th century onwards, presenting over 200 works – printed books, drawings, engravings, manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, coins… – taken from the vast collections of the National Library (BNF), with a few key loans from majors Parisian cultural institutions such as the Louvre and the Jacquemart-André Museum, closed for renovation until September 2024).

You’ll see the importance of illuminated books, using models taken from Antiquity, as well as the culture of letters – two ways to take inspiration from the values of Antiquity and apply them to a current artistic and intellectual framework.
