The annual, official best Parisian baguette competition is important for the city’s bakers – getting a prize can bring you a lot of customers, and the winner gets to make baguettes for the President for an entire year!

The results of the 2025 competition have just been published, and it just so happens that the second, third, fourth and fifth prizes for the best baguette all went to bakeries on the Left Bank, not far from our hotels!

You might not know, but the contest for the best Parisian baguette is a very serious affair. Baguettes have to be between 50 and 55cm long and weigh between 250 and 270 grams, with no more than 14g of salt per kilo of flour.

Those that pass this first selection stage are then judged according to five criteria – how they look, the taste, the crunchiness of the crust, the softness of the interior and how bubbly it appears – by a jury of industry professionnels, the previous year’s winner and a handful of Parisians chosen at random.

For 2025, the winner of the best baguette is over the river in the 10th arrondissement, but the delicious winners of the second, third, fourth and fifth prize (oh, and the ninth) are all on the Left bank not very far from us (between 5 and 20 minutes on foot)!
