Cologne-based Höfer (born 1944) loves to take photos of huge spaces, but never shows any people….

Known for her shots of huge libraries and numerous exhibitions, Candida Höfer – who comes from the same school of photography as Andreas Gursky – is currently exposed at the Galerie Yvon Lambert.

Large prints of large majestic spaces, empty… The photos allow us to ponder the history of these spaces and to imagine the number of people who have passed through them – and will pass through in the future. Although they look simple, the details and scale hide a greater meaning. The more you look, the more you see and imagine.
