Can’t be bothered to go to Disneyland? Neither can we! Luckily, Paris has its own giant funfair in the heart of the city for two months every Spring…

Disneyland eh? Overpriced food. The same old rides. Queues. Tourists. Why not try a proper old school funfair where the Parisians go to have fun? Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud to present… the Foire du Trône!!!

This giant funfair is an annual Parisian event, with huge rollercoasters and enormous spinning rides to scare and delight you in equal measure. You’ll also find a lot of hotdogs, candy floss, toffee apples and all the other smells and attractions you remember from your youth (or at least I do!).

Don’t even think of going by car; parking is a nightmare, and the site is perfectly well-served by public transport, including a free bus from the station Nation (four métro lines and the RER A) on weekends and public holidays.

Here’s all the essential information for the 2008 Foire du Trône in Paris

When: 22nd March – 18th May 2008 (strictly speaking there’s a special opening gala on 21st March, with concerts and other nonsense, but I’d avoid that if I were you)
Where: Pelouse de Reuilly, on the edge of the Bois de Vincennes on the east side of Paris. See below for the map and transport details. The métro is Porte Dorée (line 8)
Opening hours: midday to 10pm, except Saturdays and the day before public holidays: open until 1am
How much: entrance is free, the price of rides is extremely variable. There’s a pass available with 24 tickets for 37 euros, but this has to be bought in advance (not available on site). Click here to buy one
