A new way of getting up Montmartre: by foot

Want to take the funiculaire up to the top of Paris’ biggest hill? Careful when you go then; it’s being repaired…

Feeling sporty? Good for you! If you’re in Paris in the next couple of weeks and want to go to Montmartre, make sure you check up on the state of the funiculaire. From now until the Summer, works will be going on in order to replace the second compartment, and this means that the whole thing will be either be closed or running on a reduced schedule.

Here’s the details:

– Wednesday 9th April 2008 the funiculaire will be closed all day
– from Thursday 10th April – Friday 18th April 2008 the funiculaire will be closed from 6am to 2pm

However, salvation is at hand for the lazy tired; a replacement bus service is being laid on from in front of the funiculaire, but departures are fairly few and far between:

– on 9th April there’s a bus every 20 minutes from 7.30am to 2pm, every 10 minutes from 2-9pm and every 40 minutes after 9pm
– from 10th-18th April shuttle buses leave at 7.30am, 7.50am, 8.10am, 8.30am, 8.50am, 9.10am, 9.30am, 9.50am, 10.10am, 10.30am, 10.50am, 11.10am, 11.30am, 11.50am, 12.10pm, 12.30pm, 12.50pm, 1.10pm and 1.30pm

Perhaps this is the right time to combine a visit to Montmartre with a quick aerobic workout ? 😉
