Ron Arad – No Discipline – an exhibition at the Pompidou Centre

The first French exhibition dedicated exclusively to the British designer and architect Ron Arad.

Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv, studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art, then at the London Architectural Association School, and has lived in London since 1973 where he has produced a diverse collection of sinuous, elliptical and oval design objects in limited editions or for industrial production.

His name instantly conjures up iconic pieces such as the Bookworm shelf (1993) and the Tom Vac chair (1997), but his surprising work has allowed him to break through certain barriers and gains the freedom to work in design, architecture and art. In this way, Ron Arad defines himself and not being linked to any specific form of expression, or having – to use an ironic description – “No discipline”.

Several pieces of his work are now present in the Design collection of the Musée national d’art moderne / Centre de création industrielle. This unique retrospective shows major emblematic pieces, prototypes, mass-produced items and architecture projects.
