The Musée du Luxembourg seduces us once again with a new exhibition, racily entitled Fragonard in love – suitor and libertine.

Explore the daring and frankly saucy side of Jean-Honoré Fragonard‘s work, where bodies willingly collide in bucolic settings…

Fragonard’s scenes were pretty scandalous for their era, sometimes close to pornographic, but the artist was essentially just interested in the frank expression of emotion, where courting lead to sensual encounters (hmm, that reminds us of the Cocottes floor at the ‘Hôtel les Dames du Panthéon!).

Love is of course an evergreen subject, and omnipresent in the works on show. Astonishingly, some of the content of the paintings and drawings remains slightly shocking today, and this is the first event to explore just this aspect of the artist’s work. A good reason to go down and get an eyeful 😉

Related events include conferences and round tables (free, but you have to sign up), a perfumed nocturnal visit during the White Night cutural event in October, an evening of sketching (Wednesday 18th November, 7-10pm), an evening around the saucy tales of Jean de La Fontaine (Wednesday 20th January, 7-9.30pm…
