Kamel Mennour opens a new gallery space on the Left Bank

Contemporary art dealer Kamel Mennour already had an exhibition space on rue de Lodi (number 6), not far from our hotels, but he’s just opened another on the same street, at number 5!

The first presentation is an installation by Daniel Buren and Philippe Parreno entitled Simultanément, travaux in situ et en mouvement (Simultaneously, works in situ and in movement).

The exhibition is all about the appearance and disappearance of objects, and as the artists state, one object added to another object does not necessarily make two objects. How does a form appear? How is it possible that it can appear?

Also, an exhibition space is immovable and yet completely different depending on the exhibition being staged there. A space both in situ and in movement, as it were.

The movement in this particular exhibition comes from the blinds opening and shutting in unison with sensors placed in the Seine, not far away.

With the movement of the water, the space is flooded with light or dimmed, becoming somewhere that seemingly ‘breathes’ in a mostly abstract way.

This calming spectacle can be experienced in the gorgeous new exhibition space before crossing the road to see Mennour’s other venue currently displaying works he would have had on his stall at the FIAC, had it not been cancelled.

The new Kamel Mennour gallery space is at 5 rue du Pont de Lodi (here)
