Not far from our hotels, the Musée d’Orsay is organising the first Parisian exhibition about the French painter and (later on) sculptor Aristide Maillol since 1961!

Some gorgeous (and famous) impressionist paintings and beautifully seductive sculptures await you in the exhibition Aristide Maillol (1861-1944). La quête de l’harmonie at the Musée d’Orsay, who says it’s not just an exhibition but a ‘large retrospective’.

The exhibition examines not only the artist’s paintings, but also his embroideries, examining his creative process and explaining why his sculptures are almost always naked women 😳

The centrepiece of the exhibition is perhaps the stone sculpture Méditerranée, which has been lent by the Oskar Reinhart Foundation in Switzerland, presented for the first time with its counterpoint in marble belonging to the Musée d’Orsay.

In tandem with the exhibition, there are 90-minute guided visits available, a symposium (in French) called Maillol et après on 17th May from 10am-5pm, and a talk with curators Antoinette Le Normand-Romain and Ophélie Ferlier-Bouat on 22nd April that will no doubt reveal a lot more about how the exhibition was developed.
