En jeu! Artists and Sport (1870-1930) exhibition at the Marmottan Museum until 1st September 2024

Known for its incredible permanent collection of Monet paintings, the Marmottan Museum also organises some very interesting temporary exhibitions.

For their latest, with the Olympics being held in Paris, the on-brand theme is En jeu! Artists and Sport (1870-1930) looking at 60 years of sport in art from impressionism to cubism, with an impressive selection of over one hundred works by Toulouse-Lautrec, Bourdelle, Degas, Monet, Courbet, Caillebotte, Renoir, Rodin, Sisley and more.

Just months before the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, sport has infused everything in the city, right down to its museums!

And to see how sport, sportswomen and sportsmen evolved in tandem with art, what better than this exhibition of paintings (and more) that looks at a specific period when sport was becoming more organised and above all more accessible to the masses in Europe, thanks to a reduction in the number of hours worked.

It was also a period when women were gaining power and access to sports that had formerly been forbidden for them.
