The square in front of Hôtel de Ville has been transformed for the holiday into a Christmas Village! Expect decorated trees, chalets, illuminations and “wooden decorations made by the Paris city lumberjacks” ?

All the chalets trying to sell you stuff are being presented by craftspeople form the city who have been given the right to use the coveted tag “Fabriqué à Paris” (Made In Paris), which means you may well see items that are a little out of the ordinary, and of higher quality than elsewhere.

Other stalls have things to eat and drink, including waffles, gingerbread, mulled wine and “other organic, homemade product”. Sounds almost too good to be true!

For the kids, there’s a big merry-go-round (free druing the school holidays), a little train and even Father Christmas (who is all over town at the moment) with whom you can take a selfie from 1-8pm every day.

However, there’s no ice rink this year. Perhaps the wooden decorations made by the Paris city lumberjacks didn’t leave enough space for it ?
