"Gary Hill et Tabaimo" exhibitions at the Fondation Cartier in Paris till February 4, 2007

Fondation Cartier introduces two contemporary artists: a Japanese artist Tabaimo and Gary Hill.

Tabaimo, Gary Hill

For the first time in France, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain will present a solo exhibition of Tabaimo, one of the most prominent young japanese artists today. Far from the “cutesy” image of contemporary japanese art promoted recently in Europe and North America, Tabaimo’s works reveal the dark side of modern Japan through animated films and installations that take viewers into an alluring, strange and infinitely troubling world.

Mining the spaces between media, Gary Hill digs into questions of perception and meaning in challenging ways that always place the viewer within an undeniable situation of presence and physicality. Making use of an array of elements and layered meaning, he has created two new large scale works for his solo exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
