When American photographer Frank Schramm started taking photos of Concorde back in 1989, it was the future of air travel. Would would have thought that less than 15 years later it would be permanently retired?

In an artform that usually requires its portrait subjects to remain perfectly still, Schramm seems to have been inspired to capture something that moves faster than the speed of sound, doing research in order to know excatly when the mythical airplane would make an appearance.

His series has taken on an unexpected historical role in addition to its evident artistic value.Schramm’s photos are now included in the collections of some of the world’s biggest museums in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, Lausanne and London. Fans of black and white photography (and airplanes) shouldn’t miss the exhibition! The exhibition Frank Schramm Concorde: Paris – New York is at the Esther Woerdehoff Gallery (here) until 14th July 2012
